In Love With Concrete

Posted in Home by strytllng on May 20, 2013

Hello there!

Remember me? Once a blogette – suddenly disappeared? Yes, that’s me. I haven’t felt much inspiration lately to share any content. And I must admit, I disappeared to a new thing called Pinterest. (Feel the irony?)

But I recently (about 2 years ago) fell in love with this Kreuzberg-based (furniture) designer called Sigurd Larsen. (With his designs that is.) His designs are sublime and minimalistic. He owns the mixture of concrete and wood. As i am in no position to articulate the beauty of his works properly, I’ll simply give you a little taste of it.

I hope you enjoy it as much as I do – and PLEASE be gently. This is my first entry in months.

Levi’s XX ::: STOCK SALE

Posted in Fashion by strytllng on March 21, 2012

Quiet? Me? Yes. I haven’t blogged much lately but here is a quickie before I return to writing more updates on what happened in these past gazillion years.

If you happen to be in Berlin these days, don’t miss the Levi’s XX stock sale – the prices for the premium brands represented are simply too good to pass on the opportunity. The only thing you need is something similar to a sample size or another extreme… no probs, correct? 😉 #summerapproaching

Must See

Posted in Uncategorized by strytllng on November 1, 2011

The opening of “My Quiet of Gold” was my first time in Gestalten Space, a concept loft offering beautiful Gestalten books, design objects and home to an exhibition area. If you are around Berlin Mitte – the exhibition, My Quiet of Gold is a must – a powerful story told through staged photographs combined with painting. I was touched. I was lost in thoughts when looking at the art-work.  Here is the official description:

My Quiet of Gold by Cooper & Gorfer, a striking photographic journey documenting the stories of love, sorrow, and betrayal from rural Kyrgyzstan.

The artist duo Sarah Cooper and Nina Gorfer work at the intersection of contemporary photography with painting of the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries. Their photographic installations move fluidly between reality and imagination, technical and artistic interpretation, and collective myth and personal narrative.

For their exhibition My Quiet of Gold, Cooper and Gorfer traveled to the rural areas of Kyrgyzstan to collect sagas and stories in conversations and interviews with local inhabitants. Out of these tales, the duo created striking photographic portraits that go far beyond mere documentation to tell and visually interpret romantic-melancholy stories in completely new and non-linear ways.

The exhibition can be visited during opening hours until 27th November at Gestalten Space, Sophie-Gips-Höfe, Sophienstraße 21, 10178 Berlin.

Entrance: free

Falling For Red

Yoko’s via OneTeaspoon

I stumbled over the new arrivals in OneTeaspoon‘s online shop and again, I am ridiculously IN LOVE. Soft suede in a warm orange-red?! Common…how can you not love a pair of shorts called Yoko’s. Since the Berlin Summer is slowly approaching a Berlin Fall – this warm tone couldn’t be better suited to resemble the warm colors of the third season. But I might need a little more fabric than this Australian label has to offer in order to stand the lower temperatures though. I did a little research for you and have come up with 3 jeans alternatives. They don’t hit the color exactly but from tomato-red to a slightly purple burgundy, I still have the hots for red jeans. Anything you would like to add?

She Wants To Move

Posted in Video by strytllng on August 2, 2011

…the last days of this way too long thesis are finally coming to an end and my mind is gong crazy with the thought of all this spare time ahead of me (spare time is defined: evenings and weekends, which are also working hours now). I have so many wishes that I would all like to do at once: SLEEP, FRIENDS, PARTY (I am from berlin after all) & RUN…how I’ve missed running. I want to go out and meet with my friend, the street again. I cannot believe we haven’t met in so long! I don’t really care what I’m doing as long as I don’t have to sit behind that desk anymore! TAKE ME OUT!

I don’t have a brand fetish – no I am not brainwashed yet. Therefore I posted an adidas Originals video as well as the Nike Run video from Berlin because both videos cater to my hunger for exercise just perfectly.

Hien Le ::: SS 2012

Posted in Fashion Week, Uncategorized by strytllng on July 29, 2011

Hien Le’s first show on the catwalk at Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Berlin can only be called a huge success. From the unisex concept of material and coloring for his men and women line, Hien Le made my Fashion Week-tired eyes glow with joy again. Not only am I in love with his effortless tailoring and the minimalistic approach which are his signature look but the designer born in Laos dedicated this collection to his grandfather, a tailor himself during French-colonial, Laos. This Berlin fashion genius has the art of a perfect dress in his genes, arranges colors perfectly without imitating trends and integrates the history of his family into this beautiful collection. I have to applaud Hien Le for creating a Spring Summer 2012 collection that has a lot of soul – something the industry needs so desperately.

Allow me a very personal note: I met Hien Le a little over a year ago when he presented his collection at Collect Showroom. He is the nicest designer I ever met. When I ran into him at the Wood Wood show on Thursday, he was the epitome of calm (imagine you are presenting just two days later  for the first time in front of a big audience) and asked me if I am coming to see his show. Hien was so sweet as to remember me. VERY nice, talented & skilled and loving his grandparents – WOW. (All of my friends know my grandma is my very favorite.) That’s exactly why I named him one of my favorite designers from Berlin in my interview with ELLE.fr right before his show. (Just look at those perfect shorts!)

Remember this name as you will read more about him in the big papers: HIEN LE

VOODOO…ENCORE

Posted in Fashion, Video by strytllng on July 15, 2011

August is approaching quickly and the organisation for VOODOO MARKET #4 are heating up these days. I will meet my friend and partner Oryanne this evening to talk about the concept. I cannot believe we are doing this again so quickly?! It is a LOT of work but #3 went so well, we had people asking for #5 already. VOODOO MARKET is about friends and the friends of friends getting together in one place in one afternoon, exchange inspirations or enjoy the relaxed atmosphere. My personal favorite is always to see the exhibitors building up their stands to see their individual decoration and then watch them proudly present their craftmanship. Handmade items are appreciated around the world by people with a growing awareness with an individual sensitivity.

VOODOO MARKET #4
August 27th
1-9pm
Chez Jacki

I found this video above showing Terry Cronin from Buffalo Girl, Australia. Beautiful…I’d have her at VOODOO MARKET in a minute if she was from Berlin. Do you know anybody in the Berlin-area doing anything similar?
