Bye Bye Sunny Days

Posted in DIY, Fashion by strytllng on October 20, 2011

Bye bye summer. Bye bye cute little shirts and bags. Berlin is facing freezing weather these days. Time to look back at things that will have to wait until next summer to see daylight again.

The above is a DIY shirt I made from a shirt I found in a vintage store in London’s Brick Lane, where Anne Hathaway shopped at the same time while I found this retro “Dream-Safari-Print” shirt. (It’s the perfect kind of trashy to upcycle it.) The Aigner bag is vintage from London as well and – surprise – the Oxfords with ethno fabric application are from the island as well. (no vintage here 😉 ) The fabulous jeans? Levi’s Made & Crafted.

London – you dressed me in August!

I cut of a pair of denims this morning because of my lack of shorts in my wardrobe. (Don’t worry, I paired it with a silk top and biker boots.) Ever since I saw a pair of NBA adidas Originals shorts in their showroom at Berlin Press Days, I cannot stop thinking how nice it would be to have sporty shorts.

Wild Wild West

You may have noticed by now that this season, my sense of styling has been inspired by old photographs of Native Americans from the 19th century. Not only do I love the prints and soft leather combined with an overload of accessories made of natural materials but it is also the inherent calmness that these pictures radiate. If you need some reminiscence, please search for photos of Crazy Horse or Sitting Bull. They send out a mystic energy of power and wisdom which captures my mind these days.

I found these photos from Numéro on SPELL and the Gypsy Collective. They are not quiet the originals but it’s a 21st century photoshoot in perfection. The series in sepia reflects the fashion trend inspired by the originals as close as a Burberry coat could come the North American continent and its rich history. The best photoshoots seem to be either made in heaven or in France.

Never has recycling that left-over yarn been put to better use. All you have to do is make all those pom poms and tie them together and that garden or balcony of yours will be Summer-ready in no time.

Honestly…WTF has the detailed instructions if you need them. Images also via Honestly…WTF.

Céline ZZ sunglasses

Osborn Design Studios Huipile Bootie

Pendleton Heritage Home Decor

I got the fashion-tribal fever in earthy tones! Céline shades are just the best this season and need to be part of my wishful thinking list to keep me from dancing around the bonfire singing spells. Enjoy your Summer!

Lolita x Tomboy

Posted in Fashion, Lookbook by strytllng on May 13, 2011

Last night I had a dream: I went back to Australia but for only 72hours. (Why one would travel around the globe for 72hours Down Under is beyond my logic.) What did I do with my precious time? After being followed by a gigantic snake I mainly went for some shopping. Some of my favorite blogs are from the southern hemisphere which may explain me dreaming about the continent far far away where Summer wardrobe dreams seem to come true.

Is the Australian Summer really so far away for this Berlinette? Then I remembered OneTeaspoon a label which is also available in Europe. I got the lookbook quickly to share with my readers. I must say, my love for this young label is growing even more. The Fall-Winter 2011 collection named The Wanderer mixes the perfect lolita look with tough tomboy style. Shorts, kimono-inspired jackets and babydolls meet XXL legged jeans and buttoned up shorts. My favorites are definitely those wide jeans paired with the kimono jackets. Inspiring!

New DIY Coming Up ::: Kimono Coat

Posted in Fashion by strytllng on May 6, 2011

These kimono inspired Boho-Summer coats keep following me these days. They look best when made out of burn-out velvet and silk but any free-floating textile could serve the purpose. I’ll have to hit the Turkish market next week to find myself the perfect fabric and get the needles going. Some shorts and my self-made coat…I cannot wait for Summer!!!

New Bloglove ::: SPELL & The Gypsy Collective

Posted in Uncategorized by strytllng on April 11, 2011

This picture, from a photo shoot which I found on my new favorite blog for the upcoming sunnier season, made me realize: I am totally in love with everything that comes from SPELL & The Gypsy Collective. (Remember my “sunny” post from last week?!) Even though this is a “brand” blog (BRAND sounds like a big global player, which doesn’t do these unique designs any justice. But you’ll get my point.), they’ve done the best in getting me hooked on their progress as they document their designs with shootings, show sources of inspiration, post their weekend activities and more. These ladies know, what my pale Spring soul lusts for and make the most atmospheric shoots with their very own designs. So why don’t I finally add them to my daily reading list a.k.a. my blogroll? …!!! Exactly.

Under Her Spell

Why don’t we all live in Australia or Southern California, I am asking? Because it would ruin the fun of looking forward towards Summer. My city had a very hot preview this weekend of what the favorite season will be like. The sun came out for two days and had everyone walking in shorts, practising their laissez-faire boho mood. Isn’t it striking how very different the vibe of a hectic city can be as soon as the sun is out and the temperatures are up? It all changes with a few rays of light – turning dark faces into bright relaxation.
